Dr. Hatem al-Haj called FGM an „honor“ for women and was responsible for the health care of little girls at the same time. Now the well-known Mayo Clinic fired him on the spot.
Dr. Hatem al-Haj, a pediatrician and fellow at the American Academy of Pediatrics, was fired by world-famous Mayo Clinic in Alberta Lea, as Atlas Shrugs reported on its website on Wednesday. In an Arabic-language paper entitled „Circumcision of Girls: Jurisprudence and Medicine“ al-Haj repeatedly argued that FGM is „an honor“ for women and justified this position by referring to the words of Sunni Muslim scholars and ignoring the detrimental effects on women´s health and the barbarity of the practice.
„Dr. al-Haj is no longer employed or caring for patients at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea. Female circumcision of children, referred to as female genital mutilation in U.S. legal statutes, is a felony-level child abuse crime. Mayo Clinic strongly opposes the procedure and it has never been performed at any Mayo Clinic facility“, commented the clinic.
Waris Dirie says: „This is the right decision. Only an uncompromising and consequent action against this crime leads to success. We already talked enough about it.“
